The deep and compassionate process of psychotherapy

The psychotherapy process is grounded in the therapeutic principle of listening without judgment. It is a unique relationship where, over time, you might find a way to voice your deepest thoughts and feelings openly without fear. This compassionate approach is central to healing and personal growth and looks at the intricate relationships of life both today and from the past.

Deciding to undergo therapy is a significant commitment, both in time and financial terms, so it can take time for you to find the person with whom you resonate. Trusting your intuition in this matter is key. We would arrange an initial session to gauge our comfort level in working together to ensure a good fit. This meeting also allows you to reflect on your therapy goals and address any queries you might have.

Process Of Psychotherapy

Why go to therapy?

Deciding to engage in psychotherapy is a courageous step towards self-understanding and healing. The motivations driving individuals to therapy are as diverse as the individuals themselves, but all share a common thread: the search for emotional balance, deeper understanding, and personal growth.

A common refrain is, “I have a circle of close friends; why would I need a therapist?” While the comforts of friendship are irreplaceable, a marked difference exists between the dynamics of everyday friendships and the therapeutic relationship.

Friendships are built on mutual exchange — a delicate dance of giving and receiving emotional support. Yet, there are times when this balance is upset. One might find themselves suppressing their deepest emotions, concerns or vulnerabilities, fearing they might strain or rupture the friendship.

In contrast, the therapeutic relationship offers a unique and compassionate environment focused solely on the individual’s well-being. Here, the traditional bonds of reciprocity are absent, creating an atmosphere where one can explore one’s innermost thoughts, feelings and traumas without reservation.

What happens in therapy?

It’s a good question as it’s unique to every person. There is no one-size-fits-all approach.

In psychotherapy, we delve deep into the complexities of how it is for you in your life today. It’s not merely about tackling the symptoms on the surface but uncovering the deeper, often hidden, roots of your emotional and behavioural patterns. This exploration allows you to discover long-standing beliefs, past traumas and internal conflicts that shape your current life.

It’s a gradual process where you are empowered to explore your inner world, face your hidden aspects and embark on a path of transformation towards a more integrated self.

I take a collaborative approach to therapy, focusing on a partnership where we walk the path together, adhering to a rigid ‘treatment’ framework.

This journey of self-reflection and healing can lead to significant insights. You’ll likely find a stronger sense of purpose and fulfilment as you become more in tune with your inner self. Recognizing and comprehending your internal conflicts and patterns can diminish their adverse effects and enhance your ability to face life’s challenges with resilience and poise.

What next

In our initial session, we will review essential documents including my professional contract, GDPR compliance, insurance details and the ethical guidelines governing my practice. We’ll also discuss our confidentiality agreement to ensure your privacy and trust.

Additionally, I’ll conduct a brief assessment to understand what you want to achieve in therapy to begin the development of a personalized sleep plan tailored to your needs.

I will also address any further questions that you might have.

Core Process Psychotherapy

My practice emphasises mindfulness through Core Process Psychotherapy (CPP). CPP combines the mindfulness principles of Buddhism with Western insights on personality development. While my approach draws inspiration from Buddhist psychology, there’s no need for you to be familiar with or adhere to any specific religious or philosophical beliefs.

My intention is to build a genuine, therapeutic relationship with you and I offer a space filled with attention, authenticity, and compassion so that this can be achieved.

For me, the therapy experience isn’t rigidly structured but evolves naturally, allowing you to find and voice your path to well-being. It’s personal and your process is always unique.

At the heart of my practice, I believe everyone has the ability to be present and discover the deep peace within. This journey of self-discovery, the ‘core process,’ focuses on understanding how we came to be here in this present moment and sheds light on the patterns and processes that perhaps hold you back or keep you from sleeping well.
